Worry Less About Cost, and More About Value

Is it just you or do things feel more expensive? While you might not have been indulging in a large number of pumpkin spice lattes two decades ago, and you didn’t have to worry about phones costing over a thousand dollars, data plans that can cost upwards of three hundred a month, it does feel like everyday life just keeps getting more costly.

Unfortunately, it’s not just you. Especially if you’re a millennial, things are just getting more expensive. Between 1960 and 2000, rent has increased by 46 percent when adjusted for inflation, and college tuition for an undergraduate degree has increased by 213 percent. That doesn’t include the increase in vehicle prices, and medical insurance.

Regardless of how expensive things have become, however, when it comes to dental care, your number one concern should be value over cost. And if you’re one of 178 million Americans who are missing at least one tooth, or one of the 40 million who are missing all their teeth, there are procedures out there worth both your time and money.

Worry Less About Cost, and More About Value

What Are Dental Implants?

Losing even one tooth can be a difficult experience. A smile can be personal to so many, something that can serve as a marker of who we are. Dental implants allow patients to replace missing teeth in a way that feels natural. Comprised of two main components, the titanium implant, and the ceramic crown, the key to the success of dental implants is a process known as osseointegration. After the titanium crown has been inserted into the jaw, it begins fusing with the surrounding tissue and bone, creating a connection that mimics the functionality of your natural tooth root.

After the process of osseointegration has completed, a ceramic crown is permanently attached. This crown is custom-crafted by a dental lab to both match the shade of your natural teeth, meaning they’re virtually undetectable, and also to resist stains and chipping in the future.

The Value of Dental Implants

Compared to other tooth replacement methods such as traditional dentures, the value of dental implants is represented by the freedom they give patients. Because they function just like natural teeth, you won’t have to worry about additional cleaning practices beyond your normal oral hygiene routine, and you won’t have to worry about your implant falling out, disrupting your normal diet, or causing you any embarrassment. If you’ve lost multiple teeth, dental implants can also prevent bone loss.

Normally, the jaw continually regenerates bone mass. This process is triggered by stimulation felt in the jaw through the act of chewing. When teeth have gone missing, however, this stimulation stops along with the process of regenerating bone mass. When enough mass has been lost, this creates a “sunken” look in the cheeks. Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants can prevent this by providing the needed level of stimulation.

If you’re still worried by the cost of dental implants, the biggest value they can provide is that of time. Unlike many other dental procedures, dental implants can last a lifetime when properly cared for, hopefully giving you many long years of use.
